The specification of the Tropical Combat Coat was amended in January 1965. The new design concealed the buttons of all four cargo pockets behind flaps, which successfully alleviated the snagging problem that affected the original model. The spacing of the jungle jacket's front buttons was also changed, with the 2nd pattern having only four buttons (excluding the collar button), compared to the original's five. The 2nd pattern Tropical Combat Jacket featured concealed cargo pocket buttons, but retained the original epaulets from the 1st pattern (shoulder loops) and gas flap.
